A festive and easy-to-assemble patriotic charcuterie board featuring star-shaped sharp cheddar cheese, assorted meats, fresh fruits, and crackers. Perfect for any celebration requiring a little extra sparkle.

Ingredients

  • Sharp cheddar cheese block (for star shapes) โ€“ recommend Cabot
  • Soft Brie or Camembert wheel
  • Blue cheese crumbles (optional)
  • Thinly sliced salami (Genoa salami recommended)
  • Prosciutto slices
  • Smoked turkey or ham slices (optional)
  • Fresh strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Seedless green grapes
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Assorted crackers (multigrain, water crackers, rosemary crackers)
  • Baguette slices, lightly toasted
  • Star-shaped cookie cutter (2-3 inch size)
  • Mixed nuts (almonds, walnuts, or pecans)
  • Honey or fig jam
  • Fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cheese Stars: Using the star-shaped cookie cutter, press firmly into the block of sharp cheddar to cut out star shapes about 1/4 inch thick. Make 20-25 stars depending on board size. Refrigerate until assembly.
  2. Slice the Other Cheeses: Cut the Brie wheel into wedges and crumble blue cheese if using. Arrange on the board with space for spreading.
  3. Arrange the Meats: Fold or roll slices of salami and prosciutto into loose rosettes or ribbons. Place in small clusters around the board, alternating colors and textures.
  4. Add Fresh Fruits: Rinse and dry strawberries, then halve or quarter them. Scatter blueberries and grapes in small bunches. Place cherry tomatoes in a bowl or beside cheeses.
  5. Place Crackers and Bread: Fan out assorted crackers near cheeses and meats. Arrange toasted baguette slices in a neat stack or overlapping row.
  6. Fill Small Bowls: Spoon honey or fig jam into ramekins. Add mixed nuts to another bowl or scatter a few nuts around the board.
  7. Final Garnishes: Sprinkle fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs across the board. Place star-shaped cheddar pieces prominently, grouping some and scattering others.
  8. Serve Promptly: Keep the board at room temperature for optimal flavor and texture. If preparing ahead, cover tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate; remove 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use a very sharp knife and chilled cheese for clean star shapes. Let the board come to room temperature before serving for best flavor. Prepare most ingredients ahead except crackers and fresh herbs. For allergy-friendly options, swap nuts for roasted chickpeas or omit. Vegan cheeses can be used for dairy-free versions.
