Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) strawberry or cherry flavored gelatin
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka (or substitute with water for non-alcoholic version)
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) unflavored gelatin powder
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1 can (14 oz / 396 g) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka or rum (optional)
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) blue raspberry or blueberry flavored gelatin
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Red Layer: In a mixing bowl, dissolve 1 package of red flavored gelatin in 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water. Stir well until completely dissolved (about 2 minutes). Stir in 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka. Pour the mixture evenly into your shot glasses, filling each about one-third full. Refrigerate for 30-45 minutes or until firm but slightly tacky to the touch.
  2. Make the White Layer: Sprinkle unflavored gelatin powder over 1/4 cup (60 ml) cold water and let it bloom for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, dissolve the sweetened condensed milk with 3/4 cup (180 ml) boiling water in a separate bowl. Add the bloomed gelatin to the hot milk mixture and stir until completely dissolved. Let it cool to room temperature (about 15 minutes), then stir in vodka or rum if using. Carefully pour the white layer over the set red layer, filling another one-third of each glass. Refri…
  3. Prepare the Blue Layer: Repeat the gelatin dissolving process with the blue flavored gelatin and boiling water. Stir in vodka. Pour gently over the white layer to fill the shot glasses to the top. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, to fully set all layers.
  4. Serving: Keep refrigerated until ready to serve. For easy enjoyment, place the shots on a festive tray and garnish with small American flag toothpicks or fresh blueberries.

Notes

Bloom gelatin properly by sprinkling unflavored gelatin over cold water first and letting it sit for 5 minutes before dissolving. Cool each layer before pouring the next to avoid mixing colors. Use quality gelatin brands for best results. Alcohol can prevent gelatin from setting if used excessively; stick to recommended amounts. For dairy-free option, substitute sweetened condensed milk with canned coconut milk mixed with powdered sugar. Store leftovers covered in refrigerator up to 3 days; avoid freezing.
