A quick and easy grilled asparagus recipe infused with garlic, perfect for weeknight dinners and costing less than $1 per serving. This simple side delivers smoky, flavorful asparagus with a crisp-tender texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh asparagus spears, trimmed
  • 3 large garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Trim the asparagus by rinsing and snapping off the woody ends (about 1-2 inches).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil with the minced garlic and stir to blend evenly.
  3. Add the trimmed asparagus to the bowl and toss gently but thoroughly to coat each spear with garlic oil. Season with salt and freshly ground pepper to taste. Let rest for 5 minutes.
  4. Preheat the grill or grill pan over medium-high heat (around 400Β°F).
  5. Arrange the asparagus spears perpendicular to the grill grates. Grill for 3-4 minutes on one side until char marks appear and the asparagus is bright green.
  6. Flip the asparagus using tongs and grill for another 2-3 minutes until tender but still crisp.
  7. Remove from grill and transfer to a serving plate. Optionally, drizzle with 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice. Serve immediately.

Notes

If some asparagus stalks are thicker, grill them a bit longer but watch closely to avoid burning the garlic. For indoor cooking, a grill pan works well though it lacks smoky flavor. Leftovers keep up to 3 days refrigerated; reheat gently in a skillet or oven to maintain texture. Avoid microwaving to prevent sogginess.
