A simple, approachable, and customizable cheese and crackers platter perfect for beginners and last-minute gatherings. Combines creamy, sharp, and crunchy textures with sweet and savory accompaniments for a crowd-pleasing snack.

Ingredients

  • Sharp cheddar cheese, sliced or cubed
  • Brie cheese, cut into wedges
  • Manchego or gouda cheese, sliced thin
  • Multigrain crackers
  • Water crackers
  • Seeded crackers (optional)
  • Green and black olives, pitted
  • Raw almonds or walnuts
  • Fresh grapes or apple slices (e.g., Honeycrisp apples)
  • Fig jam or honey
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs or thyme
  • Optional: thinly sliced cured meats like prosciutto

Instructions

  1. Take the cheeses out of the fridge about 30 minutes before serving to soften and develop full flavor.
  2. Slice the cheddar and semi-hard cheeses into bite-sized pieces or thin slices. Cut Brie into wedges, leaving the rind on.
  3. Arrange the cheeses spaced out on your serving board or plate, placing cheddar in one corner, Brie opposite, and Manchego in between.
  4. Fan out crackers in small piles or rows around each cheese, mixing cracker types for visual appeal.
  5. Fill small bowls with olives, nuts, and jams and place them strategically around the platter.
  6. Scatter grapes or apple slices in clusters around the platter and tuck fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs in between items.
  7. Optional: add thin slices of cured meats folded or rolled near a cheese pile and drizzle a little honey over the Brie or place a small dish of fig jam nearby.
  8. If preparing more than an hour ahead, cover the platter loosely with plastic wrap and refrigerate. Remove about 15 minutes before serving to bring to room temperature.

Notes

Let cheeses come to room temperature before serving for best flavor and texture. Balance flavors and textures by mixing sharp and mild cheeses, crunchy and soft crackers, salty olives, and sweet fruit. Avoid overcrowding the board to make it easy for guests to pick items. Freshen up the platter by swapping wilted herbs or adding fresh fruit if the event lasts a while. Store leftovers properly: wrap cheeses tightly and keep crackers separate to avoid sogginess.
