These savory, flaky puff pastry-wrapped mini hot dogs are shaped like mummies and served with a spicy mustard dip. They are a fun, easy-to-make Halloween party snack that comes together in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (14-ounce) packages puff pastry sheets, thawed but cold
  • 1 package (16-20 count) mini hot dogs (cocktail size)
  • Unsalted butter, melted, for brushing
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • Mini mozzarella balls, cut in half, or small black olives (for eyes)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard (for dip)
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard (for dip)
  • 1–2 teaspoons hot sauce (for dip)
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (for dip)
  • 1 teaspoon honey (for dip)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (for dip)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400Β°F (200Β°C). Line two large rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll thawed puff pastry sheets onto a lightly floured surface. If dough is soft, chill for 10 minutes. Roll slightly to smooth creases.
  3. Cut each pastry sheet into 1-inch wide strips using a pizza cutter or sharp knife.
  4. Place a mini hot dog at one end of a pastry strip. Wrap the strip around the hot dog, leaving a small gap at the top for the eyes. Leave about 1 inch of the hot dog exposed at the top.
  5. Place two halves of mini mozzarella or small black olives on the exposed hot dog to form eyes. Press gently to adhere.
  6. Whisk egg and water. Brush pastry strips generously with egg wash. Sprinkle with smoked paprika, garlic powder, and sea salt.
  7. Place baking sheets in the oven, leaving space between each mummy. Bake for 15-18 minutes, rotating pans halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool for 2-3 minutes. Serve warm with spicy mustard dip.

Notes

Keep the puff pastry cold until baking to ensure flakiness. Do not overcrowd the baking sheet to allow for expansion. If using mozzarella for eyes, a tiny dab of egg wash helps them stick. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free puff pastry. For a vegetarian version, swap mini hot dogs for plant-based sausages.
