Creepy Halloween Fruit Platter Skeleton Hand - featured image

A spooky and healthy Halloween snack featuring a skeleton hand made from cantaloupe, celery, bananas, and grapes. This easy-to-assemble fruit platter is perfect for parties and requires no cooking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large cantaloupe or honeydew melon
  • 1 small watermelon slice (optional, for red accent)
  • 4–5 celery ribs (medium thickness)
  • 3–4 ripe bananas (yellow with brown spots)
  • 1 large banana (for the thumb)
  • Red or green seedless grapes (for knuckles)
  • Blueberries (for eye sockets)
  • Toothpicks (wooden)
  • Lemon juice (to prevent browning)

Instructions

  1. Wash the melon and cut it in half lengthwise. Scoop out the seeds.
  2. Cut a large rectangular chunk from the melon half to form the palm (approx. 4-5 inches wide, 6 inches long). Trim the bottom to ensure it sits flat on the platter.
  3. Trim celery ribs to desired lengths for fingers (4 long, 1 short for thumb). Trim ends at an angle to resemble knuckles.
  4. Peel bananas and cut them to match the length of the celery ribs. Cut bananas at an angle to mimic finger shapes.
  5. Brush cut ends of bananas with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  6. Insert a toothpick into the end of each celery rib and push it into the corresponding banana piece to secure them together.
  7. Place the banana-celery fingers onto the melon palm, spreading them out naturally. Secure the base to the melon with toothpicks if needed.
  8. Attach the thumb banana to the side of the palm, pointing slightly inward.
  9. Place grapes at the joints where banana meets celery to create knuckles. Secure with toothpicks if necessary.
  10. Carve two circles into the top of the melon palm for eyes and fill with blueberries. Optionally carve a mouth and fill with red grapes or pomegranate seeds.
  11. Serve immediately or store components separately in the refrigerator until ready to assemble.

Notes

Use ripe yellow bananas for sweetness and soft texture. Chill the melon beforehand for better structural integrity and refreshment. If using outer celery ribs, blanch briefly to soften. Work from the inside out (palm, then fingers, then details) for stability. Serve at room temperature for best flavor.
