A simple, juicy, and flavorful grilled hot dogs and burgers recipe perfect for feeding a crowd without breaking the bank. Quick to prepare and easy to customize with basic ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds ground beef, 80/20 blend recommended
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • 12 beef or pork hot dogs
  • 12 hot dog buns (white or whole wheat)
  • Yellow mustard
  • Ketchup
  • Relish
  • Diced onions
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Pickles
  • Sliced cheddar or American cheese (optional)
  • Olive oil or vegetable oil (for brushing the grill grate)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (around 400°F / 204°C). Clean and lightly oil the grill grate to prevent sticking. This usually takes about 10 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, gently combine the ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Avoid overmixing.
  3. Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions (about 4 oz each). Form each into a round patty, roughly ¾ inch thick, pressing a slight indentation in the center with your thumb.
  4. Place patties on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on the first side. Flip carefully and cook another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness. For well-done, add 1-2 more minutes. Use a meat thermometer to check for 160°F internal temperature.
  5. If using cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking and close the grill lid to melt.
  6. While burgers cook, place hot dogs on the grill perpendicular to the grates. Turn frequently for even cooking, about 5-7 minutes until heated through and slightly charred.
  7. During the last few minutes, place buns cut-side down on the grill and toast lightly for 1-2 minutes until golden but not burnt.
  8. Arrange burgers and hot dogs on a platter. Let guests customize with their favorite toppings and condiments.

Notes

Keep patties cold before grilling to maintain shape and juiciness. Avoid pressing burgers while cooking to retain juices. Use direct and indirect heat zones to prevent burning. Rest burgers 3-5 minutes before serving. For gluten-free, use gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven wrapped in foil.
