A quick and comforting beans and franks recipe using simple store-brand ingredients, perfect for cozy weeknight dinners and nostalgic meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans (15 oz each) store-brand baked beans
  • 8 pieces (14 oz) store-brand hot dogs or franks (beef, turkey, or plant-based)
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Optional: pinch of hot sauce or cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Slice the franks into bite-sized pieces about 1/2 inch thick.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the baked beans with their sauce, yellow mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper. Stir gently to combine.
  3. Add the sliced franks to the bean mixture and stir to coat evenly.
  4. Place the pan over medium-low heat and simmer uncovered for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens and flavors meld. Be careful not to scorch.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning by adding salt or hot sauce if desired. If the sauce is too thick, add a tablespoon of water and stir.
  6. Serve warm, spooned into bowls or over soft bread.

Notes

For extra smoky flavor, brown the sliced franks in the pan before adding the beans. Use low-sodium beans and rinse franks to reduce sodium. Brown sugar can be swapped with maple syrup or honey. Leftovers reheat well and can be frozen for up to 2 months.
