Quick and easy bite-sized apple dumplings wrapped in flaky puff pastry and baked in a rich, warm caramel sauce. A comforting dessert ready in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 large apples (Honeycrisp or Fuji), peeled, cored, and diced into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, toss diced apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  3. Roll out thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut into 16 small squares.
  4. Place about 1 tablespoon of the spiced apple mixture in the center of each pastry square.
  5. Fold the corners over the apples, pinching edges to seal. Place seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Brush tops with melted butter.
  7. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and brown sugar, stirring until dissolved (3-4 minutes).
  8. Remove from heat and stir in heavy cream and vanilla extract.
  9. Pour caramel sauce evenly over the dumplings on the baking sheet.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes until pastry is puffed, golden brown, and caramel is bubbling.
  11. Cool for 5 minutes before serving warm.

Notes

Use Honeycrisp or Fuji apples for best texture. Ensure apples are cut into uniform 1/2-inch cubes for even cooking. Do not seal dumplings too tightly to allow steam to escape. For dairy-free option, use vegan butter and coconut cream. For gluten-free option, use gluten-free puff pastry.
