A simple, quick, and addictive one-bowl recipe for chewy chocolate chip cookies perfect for beginners and busy days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ΒΎ cups (220g) all-purpose flour
  • Β½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • Β½ teaspoon salt
  • Β½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ΒΎ cup (150g) packed brown sugar
  • ΒΌ cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) and line your baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cornstarch, and salt.
  3. Add softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar to the bowl. Mix with a wooden spoon or silicone spatula until sandy and crumbly, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until the dough is smooth and glossy. Do not overmix.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips gently until evenly combined.
  6. Drop dough balls using a tablespoon or cookie scoop onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden and centers are slightly soft.
  8. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Notes

Chilling the dough for 10-15 minutes can prevent excessive spreading. Avoid overmixing after adding the egg to keep cookies tender. If cookies brown too fast, lower oven temperature by 10 degrees. For gluten-free, use a gluten-free flour blend and add xanthan gum if needed. For dairy-free, substitute butter with coconut oil and egg with a flax egg.
